Reading

Here is a list of suggested reading books for Year 5.

It's also really worth a look at the site 'Love Reading 4 Kids'

Encourage your child to read a range of different genres, including a balance of classics, fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Try to choose books by a variety of authors too. Children should continue to record their reading in their reading diaries.

Most of the books will be available in the school library.

Of course, children do not have to only read books from the list – they should read anything that they enjoy! Magazines, comics and newspapers are good fun, as are books designed for younger children.

At the back of this booklet is a list of questions that you might like to ask your child now and again after they have completed a reading session. This will help your child to further develop their reading comprehension skills.
