Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 08.09.25

What a brilliant first full week of Year 5 it has been.

Firstly, in History, Year 5 became archaeologists, carefully studying different clues from the Maya civilisation. Just like real detectives, the children tried to work out what these clues told us about how the Maya people lived, worked and worshipped.

In Science, Year 5 began their new topic on forces. The children were amazed to discover the effects of gravity and how it pulls everything towards the centre of Earth.

Next, Year 5 practised their hockey skills outside. They focused on dribbling and passing and made a good effort to improve their teamwork.

Moreover, Year 5 were excited to begin their flute lesson this week. It was fantastic to see the children try something new, and the whole cohort is looking forward to learning more over the year.

Finally, in Art, Year 5 explored the fascinating world of Mayan masks, discovering the special purposes they had in ceremonies and celebrations. They cannot wait to design and make their own versions later in the term.
