Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 22nd September
In Maths this week, we have continued our learning on place value and have moved on to ordering numbers on a number line and estimating their position on a number line.
Our English lessons this week, have focused on us planning and writing an information text about a stone age animal. First, we had to design and draw a picture of our animal, before planning and writing our text about its appearance, habitat and diet.
In Science this week, we have been sports scientists and have conducted an investigation. Our big question was, ‘Can people with longer femurs jump further?’ We started by measuring the lengths of our femurs with a tape measure, before completing a standing long jump and comparing our results to see if our predictions were correct. In the end, we determined that femur length doesn’t seem to affect how far people can jump, as some children with shorter femurs jumped further than those with longer ones.
In History this week, we learnt about the different types of stone, bronze and iron age houses and learnt about their different features. This was all to prepare us for making our own models of the houses next week!
