DT- Collaborative Tudor Street
In our DT lessons, Year 6 has been working together to create a collaborative Tudor Street! We have been learning about the features of Tudor houses, such as timber frames, thatched roofs, and overhanging upper floors.
We worked in groups to design and build our own Tudor buildings using paper and strips of black paper to create the timber frame effect. Everyone’s house looked slightly different, which made our Tudor Street really unique. One group even created a Tudor church to add to the scene!
It was great fun working together, sharing ideas, and making sure each house had its own special details. By the end of the half term, we’re looking forward to building our own individual Tudor houses to complete our Tudor Street display!
Macbeth workshop- Young Shakespeare Company
It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget, totally unique to Coten End. It was amazing having professional actors come to the school and perform especially for us, I know that all my classmates enjoyed it. Macbeth is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays and all of the actors were so inspiring Lady Macbeth was mesmerizing but she is my personal favourite so I’m biased). The way that they got all of year 6 involved in some way ( whether it be creating the sound of a storm with body percussion or acting a small role) they still got everyone involved and to enjoy it as well
For me it was simply magical , mainly because I would really love to be an actor when I’m older but also just because I think to get 90 kids into a hall, some of which will say that they ‘detest drama’ and for them to sit through an hour of said ‘drama’ is really special for me and definitely an experience I will cherish for a long time afterward. Honestly, to sum it up in three words: I LOVED IT!!!!!!!

Place Value
In Maths, we’ve been expanding our understanding of place value by working with numbers up to 10,000,000. We’ve focused on recognising the value of each digit in large numbers and practised ordering and comparing them using number lines to help us visualise their size. We also revisited column addition and subtraction to strengthen our confidence when working with bigger numbers. It’s been a great way to start Year 6 maths — building strong foundations for the challenges ahead!
