Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 10.11.25

This week in Maths, we have moved onto written subtraction. We started the beginning of the week by subtracting without exchanging, and we have moved on to exchanging 10s and even 100s, by subtracting 3-digit numbers.

In English, we have been recapping adjectives and adverbs and how we can use them in our writing. We have been describing the experience of watching a fireworks display using the skills we have learnt to make our writing as engaging as possible.

In Geography this week, we have learnt about the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and labelled them on a world map. We even labelled the Arctic and Antarctic circles on our map too.

In Science this week, we have been photonic scientists studying light and conducted an experiment to test the reflective properties of different materials. Our challenge was to design a new Coten End book bag made of highly reflective material to keep children safe on their way home. We tested a variety of materials including card, plastic and tin foil using a torch to see how reflective they were and then used the best material in our design. We found that the tin foil was the most reflective material.

In Art this week, we have been exploring value (shading) to indicate form (shape). We tested a variety of sketching pencils to see how we could use them to shade. We then had a go at drawing our own objects and using the sketching pencils to add value.
