Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 17th November
This week in Maths, we have finished our unit on written addition and subtraction. We have added and subtracted 2 and 3-digit numbers, answered some reasoning and problem-solving questions, estimated and used the inverse (opposite) calculation to check our answers.
In English this week, we have finished writing our cinquain fireworks poems and published them by writing them up neatly and decorating them. They are now on display around our classrooms.
Our Science lesson this week, focussed on shadows and how they are formed. We then conducted an experiment to test a variety of materials and see which ones made a shadow. We found the clear cellophane didn't leave a shadow at all and that baking paper and tin foil created the darkest shadows. We put our results into a darkness chart, ranking the materials based on whether they created light or dark shadows.
This week in school, we have been marking anti-bullying week. We have talked about how we can spread kindness and listed ways that we could help someone who was being bullied.
We have also taken part in a Stowe Valley MAT Art competition where we had to design a postcard representing one of the trust's values of: kindness, confidence and resilience. All our entries will be on display in the art gallery at Compton Verney around Easter time, and 12 will be selected to feature in a calendar which will be sold to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
