Over the last two weeks in Year 2, we have been very busy with our learning! In English, we have been exploring the four different sentence types. A statement tells us something, like We are working hard in class. A command tells us to do something, such as Listen carefully! A question asks something, like Can you spot the sentence type? And an exclamation sentence shows a strong feeling, for example, What an exciting week we’ve had! We have been practising all of these while reading The Day the Crayons Quit, using the crayons’ letters to help us write our own sentences to create our own letters.
In Science, we have been learning about everyday materials and their properties. We discovered that materials such as wood, plastic, metal and glass are chosen for particular jobs because of what they can do. We also noticed how many different materials one object can be made from, like a cup can be made from plastic, glass or metal.
In PSHE, we have continued talking about similarities and differences between people. We learnt that everyone is unique and special. We also discussed how bullying can happen when someone is unkind about differences, and why it is important to speak up and support one another.
In History, we have been learning about the Gunpowder Plot and the people involved. First, we listened carefully to the story of Guy Fawkes and the plotters, and then we worked together to order the events. We used pictures and sentences to help us decide what happened at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. We discovered that the plotters planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament, that Guy Fawkes was found guarding the barrels of gunpowder, and that the plot was stopped just in time. We enjoyed sequencing the events and talking about why this moment in history is still remembered today.
What fantastic learning we’ve done!
