Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 24th November
We have moved onto our new topic of multiplication and division this week in Maths. We started the week by sharing numbers into equal groups and have since recapped our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We are moving on to dividing by grouping and sharing and will be learning our 3, 4 and 8 times tables too.
In English, we are learning how to use subordinating conjunctions in our sentences. We have been spotting subordinate clauses and writing our own sentences using subordinating conjunctions. We also had our 'Come and Learn' sessions this week, where we revised some of the grammar we have learnt so far and wrote a setting description of a jungle. We really enjoyed having our adults in to work with us!
In Geography this week, we learnt about the 3 different types of mountains: fold, fault block and dome. We made cardboard models to demonstrate the different three and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our Science lesson this week was about shadow size. We used torches and objects from around the classroom to determine whether the shadows got bigger or smaller as the torch moved closer to, or further away from, the object. We found that the closer the torch was to the object, the bigger the shadow was, and the further away, the smaller the shadow was.
In Art this week, we have been continuing our elephant art project. This week, we were given an image of half an elephant, and we had to draw and shade the other half. We had to look at the image closely to make our half as accurate as possible.
