Coten End Primary School
W.B. 9.1.26
Year 2 have had a fantastic first week back and have returned to school full of enthusiasm, despite braving the ice and snow along the way! The children have shown resilience and positivity, making it a great start to the new term.
This week, we have re-launched our new approach to learning our themed topics and science through the COOL Curriculum. This exciting approach encourages curiosity, creativity and independence. The photos show our new resource areas, where children can showcase their learning in different ways, using a wide range of tools and resources to extend and challenge themselves. These areas allow pupils to explore ideas, record learning creatively and take ownership of how they learn best.
In Maths, our focus has been on money. The children have been recognising and counting amounts using coins and notes, and have begun applying their number knowledge to solve word problems confidently.
In English, we have been using the story Tiddler to support our writing. The children have enjoyed writing in the present tense in a variety of ways and have excelled in showing their understanding through imaginative sentences.
As part of our new learning theme, Blue Planet, the children designed beautiful topic book covers, using different shades of blue to create depth and tone in their artwork. In Computing, we have begun exploring Scratch Junior and are excited to use it to create our own algorithms.
A great first week back – we can’t wait to continue our Blue Planet journey! 🌍💙
