Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 05.01.26
Happy New Year from all of us in Year 5! We have blasted straight into the spring term and it’s safe to say our learning has really taken off.
Our new theme, “The Truth Is Out There”, has sent curiosity into orbit! The children have been asking out-of-this-world questions about space, the galaxy and the vast universe beyond our planet. Their enthusiasm has truly been stellar.
In English, we launched into our new class text Space Explorers by Libby Jackson and Léonard Dupond. This week, our first focus was on Yuri Gagarin, the first man to travel into space aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft on 12th April 1961. The children loved discovering fascinating facts about this historic mission and were amazed by how brave early space explorers had to be.
In Maths, Year 5 have been navigating the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. We were also delighted to welcome back singing and flute lessons this week.
To top it all off, Year 5 showed fantastic creativity by designing their front covers. Using watercolours, they created planetary, textured and colourful patterns that looked truly cosmic.
