Coten End Primary School
WB 19.1.26
This week in Year 2, we have been busy learning about lots of different subjects and have shown fantastic enthusiasm throughout.
In maths, we have been learning how to count in groups using arrays. The children explored how objects can be arranged into rows and columns to help us count more efficiently. We practised counting in equal groups and used arrays to support our understanding of multiplication and repeated addition. The children worked hard to spot patterns and explain their thinking using mathematical language.
In English, our focus has been on using conjunctions, with particular attention to the word 'but'. We explored this through the story The Whale Who Wanted More. The children discussed the events and characters in the story and then practised writing sentences using 'but' to show contrast, such as how the whale felt or what he did differently. We were really impressed with how confidently the children used conjunctions in their writing.
In RE, we have been learning about Buddha. The children listened carefully to stories about his life and talked about important messages such as kindness, calmness and making good choices. They shared thoughtful ideas during discussions.
In science, we learnt about food chains. The children drew their own food chains and used arrows to show who was eaten by whom, learning how energy moves between living things.
Finally, in computing, we have been learning about algorithms. The children created simple step-by-step instructions to make characters move, showing great problem-solving skills.
Well done, Year 2, for another brilliant week of learning!
