Another busy week in Year 2!

In English, we have been continuing our work on coordinating conjunctions, focusing on and, but and or. We used the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' as a stimulus, which really captured the children’s interest. Together, the children identified how each conjunction is used and discussed when it is appropriate to use and, but and or in sentences. They then applied this knowledge to their own writing, showing great progress and confidence.

In PE, we've been really enjoying our dance unit and learning to move to different styles of music. We've also enjoyed continuing to create and alter algorithms in computing, where we have been making characters move on the Scratch app. We have even created conversations between characters with perfect comedic timing to tell our jokes!

In geography, we have continued our work on maps and plastic pollution. The children explored how plastic waste impacts our oceans and wildlife and thought carefully about how we can help protect the environment.

In our art lessons the children sketched their own designs ready to create ocean sculptures out of clay next week. These will be inspired by the work of Giacometti and Anthony Gormley, and the children showed fantastic creativity and attention to detail in their sketches.

We also thoroughly enjoyed celebrating 'Number Day'. The children explored numbers through investigations, challenges and Times Table Rockstars, and there was lots of enthusiasm and perseverance throughout the day.

The week ended on a high with the KS1 disco, which made an already brilliant day even better. Well done, Year 2, for another wonderful week of learning!
