Week beginning 02.02.26

English – Writing in Role and Using Semi-Colons

In English this week, we continued exploring Letters from the Lighthouse. Olive and Cliff have now met Queenie, and they are disappointed by the way she has treated them. We wrote honest letters in role as Olive, explaining how she felt and expressing her emotions clearly and thoughtfully.

We also learned how to use semi-colons to link two independent clauses. It was quite tricky at first, but with practice we are becoming more confident using this challenging punctuation in our writing.

RE – What Does It Mean to Live Well?

In RE, we continued to explore the big question “What does it mean to live well?” by looking at this idea from a Buddhist worldview. We learnt about the Eightfold Path and discussed what each of the “Right…” steps means in everyday life.

To help us understand this better, we worked in groups to act out short skits, each one demonstrating a different part of the Eightfold Path. This made the learning more practical and helped us think about how beliefs can influence actions.

PE – Basketball and Tennis

In PE this week, we worked on developing our basketball and tennis skills. We focused on technique, control and teamwork, and made sure we learnt from each other by sharing tips and encouraging one another.

It was great to see everyone supporting their teammates and trying to improve with each lesson.

DT – Chopping Skills for WWII Cooking Day

In DT, we practised our chopping skills in preparation for our upcoming World War II Cooking Day. We worked carefully with our partners to keep everyone safe, using the bridge, claw, and cross-chop positions correctly.

We were also careful not to waste any ingredients, and we had the chance to sample soup and potato wedges at the end. It was a really practical lesson that helped us build confidence and responsibility in the kitchen.

Maths – Fractions and Number Day

In maths, we continued working on our fractions skills, practising and applying what we have learnt. We finished the week by celebrating Number Day, which was a great opportunity to explore creativity and curiosity around maths.

We enjoyed applying our maths learning in different contexts and had lots of fun while still challenging ourselves. It was a brilliant way to end the week!
