SPRING 2 - Week 4 (wb: 16.3.26)

This week in Year 1, we were very lucky to receive a visit from the Fire and Rescue team, who came to teach us all about their important work and how we can keep ourselves safe. It was a highly informative session, and the children learnt so much from this experience.

We began by learning about the special clothing and equipment that firefighters wear to keep themselves safe when attending emergencies. The children were fascinated to hear about each item and why it is so important and a few lucky volunteers even had the chance to try on some of the kit themselves!

The firefighters then spoke to us about safe and unsafe uses of fire in the home, helping the children to understand how accidents can happen and what we can do to prevent them. There were lots of thoughtful questions and excellent listening throughout.

To finish, the children learnt the important safety technique: “stop, drop and roll”: what to do if their clothes were ever to catch fire. This was great fun to practise, but also a very valuable and memorable lesson.

We are very grateful to the Fire and Rescue team for giving up their time to visit us. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn important life skills in such an engaging and memorable way.
