As we approach the Easter break, Year 5 have been incredibly busy with lots of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum.

We began our celebrations with a special visit to St Nic’s Church, where the children took part in an “Easter Experience.” During this visit, they explored the Easter story in an engaging and thoughtful way, learning about its meaning and the important messages it can teach us in our everyday lives. The children showed great respect and curiosity, asking insightful questions and reflecting on the themes of hope, kindness, and new beginnings.

In Design and Technology, our focus has been on food, and we explored a traditional vegetarian feijoada. The children had the opportunity to taste a variety of ingredients, experiencing different herbs, spices, and vegetables. They thoughtfully evaluated the flavours and textures before working collaboratively to design their own feijoada recipes, deciding which ingredients to include, adapt, or remove. It was fantastic to see such teamwork and creativity!

We also had an exciting STEM Day sponsored by Aston Martin. Working in groups, the children designed, built, and assembled their very own cars. They demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills, resilience, and teamwork throughout the process. The highlight of the day was testing their cars outside, where they could see their hard work come to life.

In Art, we have continued developing our collage skills, creating layered and textured pieces with increasing confidence. Alongside this, the children have been improving their drawing skills by producing fantastic rainforest animal drawings, including jaguars, sloths, and snakes. They showed great attention to detail and creativity.

It has been a wonderfully busy, productive and engaging term in Year 5. We wish everyone a restful and happy Easter break.
