Week beginning 13.04.26
A Jam-Packed Start to the Term!
What a jam-packed first week back we’ve had! Year 6 have taken SATs revision very seriously, and there is a clear sense of determination and focus in the air. It has been fantastic to see such a positive attitude towards learning.
DT – Re-fashioning and Upcycling
Year 6 have taken on an exciting re-fashioning and upcycling project, where we are repurposing clothing that is damaged or no longer fits to make something new and creative. We have seen fantastic creativity and collaboration, with pupils sharing ideas and supporting one another.
The results have been amazing, and we are really proud of the masterpieces that have been created. We are looking forward to exhibiting our work at the SWISH event on Friday 24th April.
History Trip – Evacuation Experience at Winchcombe
We had a brilliant Evacuation Trip to Winchcombe, where we arrived at the train station and stepped through a portal into 1940! Many children dressed as evacuees or soldiers, which made the experience even more immersive.
We went on a steam train journey and discussed what it might have felt like to leave our families during the war. We also took part in activities that evacuees would have done, such as fetching water, and explored clothing and games from the time. It was a memorable way to bring our World War II learning to life.
Science – Exploring the Heart
Year 6 were incredibly lucky to be visited by Dr Louise Fryearson (Sam’s mum), who taught us more about the heart and how it works. We had the opportunity to work with lambs’ hearts, identifying different parts and blood vessels.
We were very impressed with the maturity and respect shown by all of Year 6 during this experience. We also used a stethoscope and an oxygen monitor to explore how our bodies work in real life.
Louise answered lots of our questions, and we are very grateful to her for preparing such a fantastic and informative workshop.
Well done, Year 6!
A brilliant start to the term — keep up the hard work!
