WB 27.4.26

This week in Year 2 has been wonderfully busy, filled with thoughtful discussions, creative projects and lots of hands‑on learning across the curriculum. In RE, we have been exploring the meaning of peace and why it is such an important value in our world. We linked this to our learning about Coventry Cathedral, thinking about how the cathedral stands as a symbol of forgiveness and reconciliation. The children then designed their own stained‑glass windows, using colour and pattern to represent what peace means to them.

In geography, we continued to deepen our understanding of human and physical features. The children enjoyed identifying examples in photographs and maps, and they are becoming increasingly confident at explaining the difference between features that are natural and those that have been made by people.

Our maths lessons have focused on telling the time. We have been practising reading o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, and we discussed how important it is to keep practising so that we can build strong, accurate time‑reading skills.

In English, we revisited subordinating conjunctions and used them to help structure our writing. The children had great fun creating their own instruction texts inspired by Fantastic Mr Fox, imagining clever ways to “steal food” just like the characters in the story.

PE has been full of excitement as we have begun preparing for Sports Day. The children are enthusiastic about practising the different events and are looking forward to representing their school houses on the day.

In science, we explored the big question: Do all animals start as an egg? Using iPads, we researched animals that hatch from eggs and those that do not. Alongside this, in DT, the children have loved designing and building their own vehicles, learning about wheels, axles and mechanisms that help a car to move.

We had another wonderful week looking after the chicks and ducklings. We have learnt so much from them staying with us. We have learnt how to handle and care for them, the life cycles of chicks and ducks, and we have also discussed the different ways different animals are born, within our science. We said goodbye to the chicks and ducks today, and they made their way back to their families at the farm – we've loved having them to stay.
