English – Celebrating Our Writing
Wow, what a fantastic effort all of Year 6 have put into their writing! Over the last few weeks, we have had the opportunity to showcase everything we have learnt and demonstrate how much progress we have made as writers.
We have completed a range of different pieces, including letters persuading leaders to act on climate change, diary entries in role as characters from Letters from the Lighthouse and Oliver Twist, atmospheric setting descriptions inspired by La Luna, creative narratives, balanced arguments about evacuation during World War II and non-chronological reports about moths of our own creation.
It has been wonderful to see everyone developing their own writer’s voice, experimenting with ambitious vocabulary and carefully selecting punctuation and sentence structures to have an impact on the reader. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, resilience and independence Year 6 have shown!
World Cup Projects
This week, we have got into the World Cup spirit by beginning our own research projects based on different countries from around the world. We have been fascinated to discover more about the nations taking part, looking beyond football to understand their unique cultures and histories.
We have researched a range of information, including traditional foods, famous landmarks, languages, geography, flags, populations and interesting facts about each country. Of course, we have also explored the football side by learning about national teams, famous players, previous World Cup performances and what makes each team special.
We have shown lots of independence by organising our research, presenting information creatively and making sure we rewrite facts in our own words. We cannot wait to see the finished projects and celebrate the amazing countries we have learnt about!
