This week, children explored daily life in Anglo‑Saxon Britain and Roman Britain, comparing homes, clothing, food, jobs and beliefs. Working collaboratively, they gathered information from texts and created a detailed collaborative poster, combining facts, illustrations and key vocabulary.

History then came alive through drama. In groups of eight, pupils performed short Anglo‑Saxon and Roman scenes, using clear voices, expressive acting and excellent teamwork. Their confidence and creativity shone throughout.

In English, Year 5 became professional report writers. With the UK experiencing a sweltering heatwave, pupils researched facts, figures and weather data to include in their news reports. They demonstrated impressive research skills, selecting relevant information and organising it clearly for their readers.

Science transformed Year 5 into zoologists. They investigated mammals from different continents, comparing life spans, gestation periods and identifying possible links between the two. Pupils asked thoughtful scientific questions and used data to support their ideas.

In music, Year 5 continued developing their flute skills. Their focus, determination and growing musical confidence are clear as they prepare for their summer performance.

It has also been a week full of exciting opportunities beyond the classroom:

• Year 6 Junior Apprentice: Year 5 loved visiting the Year 6 project, exploring creative business ideas and seeing older pupils’ impressive presentations.
• Talent Show Auditions: Many Year 5 pupils showed great courage and enthusiasm as they auditioned for the school talent show.
• VR Viking Experience: A highlight of the week was the immersive VR session, where pupils stepped into the world of the Vikings. They explored Viking settlements, longships and daily life, deepening their understanding of this fascinating period of history.
