Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 13.07.26
Year 5 have had a brilliant final week of term, filled with celebration, creativity and reflection as we head towards the summer holidays.
Earlier in the week, the children thoroughly enjoyed watching the Year 5 and 6 semi‑finals of the Coten End Talent Show. They were genuinely impressed by the range of talent on display, from confident singing to energetic hip-hop routines and impressive band performances. The excitement is building for Friday’s grand final, where the whole school will come together to enjoy the showcase.
One of the highlights of the week was Year 5’s wonderful flute concert for their grown‑ups. The children performed confidently, showcasing the notes, rhythms and musical skills they have developed throughout the year.
In Geography, Year 5 explored the UK’s highest peaks and learned about explorers who have ascended these mountains across the country. They enjoyed comparing different landscapes and discovering what motivates people to take on such challenging climbs.
The children enjoyed learning about Viking Longships and how their clever design helped the Vikings travel, trade and explore. They then got creative by sketching their own longships. They also produced their Year 5 summary artwork, reflecting on their favourite memories and achievements from the year.
Finally, in PSHE, Year 5 explored Changing Me, thinking about growing up, personal change and what it means to get ready for Year 6. They approached these discussions with maturity, curiosity and kindness.
As we reach the end of term, we want to say how incredibly proud we are of every child in Year 5. They should feel confident in all they have achieved, from every success, every challenge overcome, and every small or large step that has shaped them into the learners they are today.
We hope all of Year 5 have a wonderful summer break. They truly deserve it.
