At the beginning of this term, Year 6 made paintings of Hokusai. His full name is Katsushika Hokusai, but he changed his name about 30 times in his lifetime! The painting we recreated is called “The Great Wave Of Kanagawa” painting which was originally painted in 1831, and it was part of the painting series named “36 views of Mount Fuji”.

Hokusai was born on the 31st of October 1760. He was 88 years old when he died on the 10th of May 1849. He was a Japanese painter and his most iconic painting is the one we recreated. He was from the Ukiyo-e period.

We used watercolour paints and watercolour pencils to help us recreate Hokusai’s style. We had to be very gentle and precise when completing this type of art.

Some people in 6MC made a back cover for their book too. Their back covers were different from Hokusai paintings. All the paintings were brilliant in the end!
