Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 5th May

We’ve had a busy and exciting week in Year 2!

In English, we explored some new suffixes that help us change the meaning of words and build our vocabulary. The children learnt how to use -ly, -ment, -ness, -ful and -less. From turning kind into kindness, to adding -ly to make quickly, the children have been spotting and using these new words in their writing with growing confidence.
In Maths, we’ve been learning how to tell the time to the nearest five minutes. We practised reading clocks to say times past and to the hour, such as “twenty-five past 3” and “ten to 6.” This is a tricky skill, but the children have shown great perseverance and are becoming more accurate every day. You can help at home by asking them to read the time on clocks around the house!

And finally, we’re excited to share that we’ve welcomed some very special new classmates – our own chicks and ducklings! They arrived in their eggs on Tuesday have been hatching throughout the week. The children have loved observing them, learning how they grow, and helping to take care of them. It’s been a wonderful hands-on learning experience full of curiosity and care.

Thank you for your continued support – have a lovely weekend!
