Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 09.06.25
Year 5 kicked things off with Sports Day on Monday. From sprints to relays, the dress-up race, three-legged race, sack race, javelin, and the obstacle course, every event was packed with energy and enthusiasm. All the house teams demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, cheering each other on and creating a wonderfully supportive atmosphere throughout the morning.
Back in the classroom, Year 5’s creative spark has been burning bright. Year 5 have been hard at work on their Viking Stop Motion animations. The children are learning how to keep the camera steady and make tiny movements to create smooth, effective animation sequences. It’s been a brilliant blend of storytelling, patience, and technology.
In History, Year 5’s creativity continued as they continued to explore Anglo-Saxon religious beliefs. Year 5 made beautiful clay ornaments, inspired by both Pagan and Christian traditions. It was a fantastic hands-on way to reflect on how different beliefs influenced Anglo-Saxon art and culture. Some Year 5s also got hands-on with history by creating impressive junk model Viking longboats, using recycled materials to bring their learning to life.
Music has also been in full swing. Year 5 are practising hard for their upcoming flute performance. They are learning to play standing up, project their voices while singing, and deliver their lines clearly and confidently.
Finally, some of our Year 5 pupils visited their Reception buddy class, where they’ve been learning about the butterfly life cycle. Together, the buddies shared their knowledge and created some wonderful butterfly crafts. It was a lovely moment of cross-year collaboration and learning.
