Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 07.07.25
This week was Activity Week – a time to step outside the classroom, try new things, and build important life skills like adventure, teamwork, and resilience.
Year 5 kicked things off with an amazing trip to the Warwick Boat Centre, where they climbed into Dragon Long Boats and took to the water! It was a true test of teamwork – they quickly discovered that rowing in time with each other made a big difference in both speed and steering. There was plenty of laughter, a few splashes, and lots of determination as the teams raced across the water together.
Back on dry land, Year 5 got creative with shield making. Each pupil carefully designed and built their own shield, thinking about what it might have represented in Viking and Anglo-Saxon times. Shapes, symbols, and colours were all thoughtfully chosen to reflect the past.
Another highlight was the Riverside Walk adventure. Year 5 took the train from Warwick to Leamington and followed the river all the way back to Coten End. Along the way, they showed off their excellent geography skills – reading maps, identifying key river features, distinguishing between rivers and canals, understanding aqueducts, and spotting wildlife. They were thrilled to see a heron and even a cygnet!
The week was full of opportunities to be active and work together. Year 5 enjoyed a lively class rounders match, took part in team-building games, tried their hand at den building, and spent time having fun in St Nicholas Park.
To round off a fantastic week, Year 5 were lucky enough to watch the Year 6 final performance, Pirates of the Curry Bean, and cheer on their peers in the Year 5/6 Talent Show semi-finals.
Well done to all of Year 5 for showing such brilliant energy, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the week!
