Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 8th September

Over the last two weeks in Year 3, we have begun our exciting Tribal Tales learning theme! We completed our topic book covers on Transition Day during the summer term which are now being used on our Learning Theme books.

In our Reading lessons, we have been reading ‘Stone Age Boy’, and learning about how people lived, worked and ate during the Stone Age. We have learnt that they didn’t have electricity or even metal and that they had to hunt for all their food.

Our English lessons so far have focused on nouns. We have talked about different types of nouns and learnt that proper nouns always need a capital letter. We have also discovered that we can use pronouns such as ‘he’, ‘she’ and ‘they’ in our sentences to avoid repetition.

Our topic in Science this half term is ‘Skeletons, Muscles and Nutrition’, and we have started by labelling the main bones in the human body and are now beginning to explore vertebrates and invertebrates and their different types of skeleton.

PE this half term will be hockey and during our first lesson this week, we learnt how to correctly hold a hockey stick and use it to move the ball around the pitch in a controlled manner.
