Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 06.10.25
This week, Year 5 had a fantastic time welcoming Nat Harrison, the author of the brand-new book The Girl Who Raced the World. Nat Harrison came to visit Coten End to tell us all about her debut novel and what inspired her to become an author. We were all fascinated to hear how her ideas grew into a full story and loved listening to her describe the exciting adventures of her main character.
In Maths, Year 5 have been consolidating their learning on rounding numbers. We reminded ourselves of the handy rhyme: “5 or more, let it soar; 4 or less, let it rest!” This helped Year 5 remember what to do when rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000 and even 100,000! They have been looking carefully at the controller of the rounder to decide whether our numbers should soar or rest, and Year 5 have really mastered it!
Finally, in Art, Year 5 spent the week bringing their amazing Maya masks to life. Year 5 carefully painted them in bold, vivid colours, and the results were absolutely striking. Each mask was unique and full of personality – a wonderful celebration of creativity and hard work!
