Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 20.10.25
What a fantastic end to our first half term in Year 5!
This week, Year 5 completed their very first set of Year 5 Autumn assessments. Everyone showed amazing resilience and determination, giving their best effort in every task.
In English, Year 5 also published their diary entries from Vesper’s perspective. Year 5 really understood how to get into the character of Vesper, using informal language to recount a day in the Underworld. Moreover, Year 5 finalised their Maya Civilisation non-chronological reports. After all their research, they were able to organise their information into formal sentences and present it in a clear, colourful layout.
In Art, Year 5 evaluated their Maya masks. It was brilliant to see how creative everyone had been and to think carefully about what went well and what could be improved next time. The masks looked incredible — full of colour, texture, and imagination!
In History, Year 5 brought together everything they had learned about the Maya civilisation. Working collaboratively, they created detailed and informative posters. To make it extra fun, we set a timer and had to add as much information as possible before moving on to another peer’s poster. They did this four times across their row, which meant everyone had the chance to share their knowledge and contribute as a team.
Year 5 also continued their class flute lessons. To celebrate the season, they even enjoyed a Halloween music special session.
