What an exciting start to our new learning theme, Flames and Fireworks! Year 2 has been bursting with curiosity as we began exploring the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We were fascinated to begin learning about his plan to blow up the Houses of Parliament and how this led to the Bonfire Night celebrations we still enjoy today.
We created fantastic learning-theme book covers to represent the Great Fire of London. We thought carefully about colour, texture and design to capture the heat and movement of the flames — they look absolutely amazing on our books!
In maths, we have been using hundred squares to find ten more and ten less. Everyone has been working hard to spot patterns and explain their thinking clearly. It’s been brilliant to see so much confidence growing in our number work.
In science, we have begun learning about everyday materials and have started to discover and name different properties and uses for them. Over the next few weeks, we will begin to look at how some materials are suited to some uses more than others.
We’ve also started journaling, and it’s been wonderful to see how this has reignited our love of writing. The children have enjoyed expressing their thoughts and ideas freely, and our classrooms are full of creativity and enthusiasm.
What a fiery and fantastic start to the term — we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next!
