Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 10.11.25

It was Interfaith Week this week, and Year 5 had a visitor who came to teach them about Hinduism. They learnt how Hindus greet one another by placing their hands together and saying “Namaste,” which is a sign of respect. They also learnt about Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

Year 5 continued to enjoy their class book, Harry Potter, and had some great discussions about the characters and magical world.

Geography and DT lessons linked brilliantly with the Harry Potter theme. In Geography, Year 5 learnt about counties in the UK. They used maps and digital tools to look up where different Harry Potter film locations around the country are found. In DT, Year 5 took part in a Sorting Hat quiz to find out which Hogwarts house they would belong to. Afterwards, they practised their fine motor skills by carefully cutting out different sized shapes. This helped them understand how to design the banners they plan to sew for their houses later this term.
