Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 17.11.25
Year 5 began the week by working collaboratively in Geography. The children explored the difference between human geography and physical geography, sharing ideas, sorting examples and researching real locations across the UK. They showed fantastic analytical skills as they identified which features belonged to each type of geography, confidently explaining their choices.
In English, Year 5 have been showcasing their descriptive writing talents. Using expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials and apostrophes for possession, the children produced detailed and imaginative character descriptions of Albus Dumbledore.
Next, the children designed postcard-sized pieces of artwork using watercolours, oil pastels or pens. Each piece represented one or more of the Stowe Valley MAT values: Kindness, Confidence and Resilience. The final artworks were thoughtful, expressive and full of colour—an inspiring celebration of these important values.
Finally, in Design and Technology, Year 5 practised a range of sewing stitches: the overstitch, running stitch, backstitch and blanket stitch. The children showed impressive concentration and patience as they worked, and everyone made brilliant progress.
