Coten End Primary School
AUTUMN 2 - Week 3 (wb: 17.11.25)
Last week in Year 1, the children were busy exploring mathematical vocabulary in the most natural way - through play! When the small blocks were put out, it didn’t take long before lines, towers, and imaginative constructions started popping up around the room. Some children carefully lined up the blocks to see which rows were shorter or longer, while others competed to see who could build the tallest tower. There was lots of problem solving chat and some wonderfully rich mathematical talk happening without the children even realising it. It’s just one lovely example of how play can create those sneaky opportunities for learning.
As a quick reminder, please ensure your child has a pair of wellies in school, along with a sensible waterproof coat. Our OPAL playtimes continue in all weathers, and we are encouraging the children to become more independent by assessing the weather and choosing the clothing they need to keep themselves as dry, warm and as mud-free as possible. Thank you for helping us support their growing independence (and helping us keep the classroom a little cleaner too!).
