Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 01.12.25
Year 5 have cast a spell of brilliance over the classroom this week, making it feel more like Hogwarts than ever.
D.T. – Stitching Up Some Sorcery
Our young witches and wizards put their sewing skills to the test as they crafted their very own Harry Potter house banners. Their precision was sharper than Professor Snape’s wit, and their perseverance could give Hermione a run for her money. The final creations were nothing short of charm-ing!
Dance – Quidditch Moves That Soared
In Dance, Year 5 soared higher than a Firebolt! Their routines this week were inspired by the fast-paced, broom-whirling world of Quidditch. The teamwork on display was magical. Clearly, no one forgot that in Quidditch (and in class), collaboration is the real golden snitch.
Geography – Grid References Fit for a Marauder
Armed with maps rather than Marauder’s Maps, the children practised reading, plotting and finding four-figure grid references. Their accuracy was so impressive, we’re convinced they could navigate the Forbidden Forest without getting lost… though we wouldn’t recommend testing that theory!
The Hogwarts-Level Highlight – Our Trip to the Studio Tour!
The crowning jewel of our week was, of course, our enchanting visit to the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour. Excitement fizzed like a cauldron of Polyjuice Potion as Year 5 stepped into the wizarding world.
They took part in a Creating Creatures workshop, where they analysed descriptive techniques before designing and writing about their own magical beasts. These creations will soon swoop into our final English narrative chapter—helping Harry escape Uncle Vernon’s wrath after a bit of magical mayhem at Grunnings!
Following the workshop, the children ventured through the studios, where the magic of filmmaking leapt off the page and into reality. They explored:
- The Great Hall and Hogwarts sets
- Props and costumes from across the films
- A broomstick greenscreen flying experience
- The spooky Forbidden Forest
- Platform 9¾
- The glittering Gringotts Bank
- The cobbled streets of Diagon Alley
- And the spellbinding model of Hogwarts Castle itself.
It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic and knowledgeable Year 5 were – spotting details from the books and films and sharing their wizarding wisdom with pride. The magic truly came to life!
