Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 8th December
This week in Maths, we have been multiplying and dividing by 3, 4 and 8. We have been answering some fluency questions and done lots of reasoning and problem-solving questions as well. We also wrote out our 2, 4 and 8 times tables and compared the numbers in each, noticing any patterns and we noticed that all of the numbers in each times table are even.
In English this week, we have been looking at contractions. We have been replacing letters with apostrophes to 'contract' or shorten different words. For example, 'did not' becomes 'didn't'. After practising the contractions, we had a go at using them in a variety of sentences.
In Science this week, we finished our topic on light by learning about rainbows. We learnt that we normally see them when the sun is behind us and it's raining. We can also see them when looking through waterfalls or bubbles. We discovered that the colours of the rainbow always appear in the same order.
In DT this week, we practised making levers and linkages using split pins and we have drawn and labelled detailed designs for our book pages. Next week, we will be using our designs to make our final pop-up books.
We have also spent a lot of time this week rehearsing for our Christmas Extravaganza. We have been learning all the words to the songs and practising reading our Christmas poem. We are really looking forward to performing it to all of our grown ups next Thursday morning!
