Trip to the Theatre – Beauty and the Beast
This week, Years 5 and 6 went on a trip to see Beauty and the Beast at the Albany Theatre. It was really exciting to visit a real theatre and experience the show live.
The costumes and sets were amazing, and the actors brought the characters to life with dancing and lots of expression. We especially enjoyed the humour and the dramatic moments, and it was interesting to see how the story was told on stage rather than in a film.
Everyone behaved brilliantly and showed our school values throughout the trip. It was a memorable experience and a great way to enjoy storytelling in a different and exciting way!
Geography – Raising Awareness Through Film
In Geography this week, we have been creating videos to raise awareness of the Galapagos Conservation Trust. We worked in groups to research different animals and conservation projects, finding out why the Galápagos Islands are so special and why they need protecting.
Using iMovie, we planned, filmed and edited our videos, thinking carefully about the information we wanted to include and how to make it engaging. It was fun learning how to use the app and working together to share our ideas. We’re really looking forward to seeing the finished products and sharing our videos to help others learn about conservation too!
English – Non-Chronological Reports on Our Own Moths
In English this week, we have been writing non-chronological reports about moths of our own creation. We imagined and designed our own unique moths and then wrote detailed sections about their appearance and characteristics, their habitats, diets and food chains, and how they have adapted to survive in their environments.
To bring our ideas to life, we also used AI to generate images of our moths based on our descriptions. This helped us visualise what our moths might look like and made our work even more exciting.
We focused on using clear subheadings, scientific vocabulary and interesting descriptions to make our reports informative and engaging. It was fun being creative while also writing scientifically, and we’re really proud of how imaginative and detailed our reports are turning out.
Maths – Calculating Percentages of Amounts
In maths this week, we have been learning how to calculate percentages of amounts step by step. First, we found 10% by dividing the number by 10, and then we worked out 1% by dividing by 100. After that, we used these to calculate trickier percentages by combining them, for example using 10% and 1% to help find 11%, 21% or 35%.
It was a really useful method because it helped us stay organised and accurate, and we’re becoming much more confident with percentages.
Gymnastics
For our PE this week, we couldn’t do a lesson of football (Because we went to see Beauty and the Beast) so instead we did a longer lesson of gymnastics. We all did a gymnastics performance (our group was arguably the best) of a random card with different types of rolls and jumps that you have to include. Our group ,which was a group of 5, had done a bit of football, WWE themed gymnastics. Many groups made a human pyramid! To start off we practised adding all of our jumps or rolls into our performance. Once we got our finished product, we showed it to our class (By the way, in our performance we became a human motorbike).
