History – Beginning Our World War II Topic
This week, we started our new history topic all about World War II. We explored what led to the start of the war and discussed the key events and decisions that caused tensions to grow between different countries. It was fascinating to see how one event can lead to another and how history is shaped by choices people make.
We asked lots of questions and shared our thoughts, and it made us curious to learn more about what life was like during the war.
DT – Rationing and Adapting in WWII
In DT, we’ve been learning about rationing during World War II and how people had to adapt to shortages of food and supplies. We talked about how families were given ration books and had to be creative with their cooking.
We also learned about the Dig for Victory campaign, which encouraged people to grow their own food in gardens and allotments to help the war effort. It was fascinating to see how communities worked together and made the most of what they had.
English – Starting Letters from the Lighthouse
In English, we’ve begun reading Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll. The story has already made us think deeply, and we’ve been sharing lots of predictions and questions about what might happen next.
We discussed the characters, the setting, and how the story links to World War II. Everyone is really engaged, and we’re excited to find out how the story develops.
Maths – Warming Up Our Brains
In maths this week, we recapped our arithmetic skills by taking part in a fun House competition, which really got our brains warmed up! It was great to work quickly and accurately while supporting our teams.
We also measured angles using protractors and practised drawing accurate triangles. It took concentration and precision, but we’re becoming much more confident with our geometry skills.
It’s been a great first week of 2026, and Year 6 has already shown fantastic enthusiasm, curiosity, and teamwork. We’re really excited for what this term has in store!
