Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 26.01.26
This week, Year 5 have been incredibly busy across the curriculum and have shown fantastic enthusiasm for their learning.
In Art, the children continued with their space-themed topic, experimenting with a range of exciting techniques. They used soft pastels to create beautiful nebula effects, paint splatter with paintbrushes to represent stars, and oil pastels to design vibrant planets. The children compared the different media they worked with, including sponges, acrylic paints, and pastels, and thoughtfully explained which they preferred and why. After lots of experimentation and inspiration, they designed a draft for their retrofuturism collage piece, ready for the next stage of the project.
In Design and Technology, pupils worked in groups to create an effective pulley mechanism. They carefully followed instructions and showed excellent collaboration and teamwork, supporting one another to achieve a successful final outcome.
In English, Year 5 proudly published their chronological reports / biographies about Neil Armstrong. These showcased their strong research skills, clear organisation, and improved writing style.
In Maths, the children have been working extremely hard to multiply 2-digit, 3-digit and 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. They have been focusing carefully on using their place value holders correctly and showing resilience when tackling challenging calculations.
Finally, in Science, Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Warwick School, where they explored different liquids and investigated whether they were acids or alkalis. They also learnt where these substances sit on the pH scale.
