Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 09.02.26
Firstly, we would like to say a huge well done to all of the children for the resilience they have shown during Assessment Week. Completing assessments can feel challenging, especially in the very last week of term, but the children approached each day with positive attitudes and focus. We are proud of how hard they worked and how maturely they handled the week.
Next, in Art, the children completed their stunning retrofuturism collages. They demonstrated a brilliant understanding of collage techniques, thoughtfully layering materials and combining acrylic paint, pastels and carefully selected images.
The evidence of these different media truly shines through in their work. Each piece reflects the children’s own unique taste and personality, making every collage completely individual. The finished pieces are extremely eye-catching and full of imagination.
In French, the children combined their fantastic space knowledge with their developing language skills. They created their own accordion-style books describing the planets in French. They carefully considered noun and adjective agreements, making sure their adjectives matched the nouns correctly.
We concluded our Truth is Out There topic in Design and Technology by stepping into the role of engineers and designers. The children designed and built their own space vehicles, and what a range we saw!
From rockets to moon buggies, spaceships to flying cars, the creativity was out of this world! The children carefully structured their designs, worked hard to correctly pair their axles and wheels, and showed great perseverance in bringing their ideas to life. Their final products demonstrate both thoughtful planning and strong practical skills. Well done Year 5!
