Year 2 have had a fantastic and very busy week of learning!
We loved celebrating World Book Day, this week. The classrooms were filled with excitement as the children came dressed as their favourite book characters. We saw lots of wonderful costumes and enjoyed talking about the stories our characters come from. Another highlight was teaming up with a buddy class from a different year group to explore some wordless books. These books tell a story using only pictures, so we had to look closely at the illustrations and use our imagination. The children worked brilliantly with their buddies to discuss what might be happening and to predict what could happen next.
During the rest of the week, in English, we have been learning to use the subordinating conjunction “because” to add extra detail to a main clause. The children wrote fantastic retells of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, using “because” to explain characters’ actions and develop their sentences. In Maths, we have been exploring statistics. The children have been learning different ways to display and interpret data, including looking at charts and discussing what the information tells us.
We also opened up our COOL Zones this week, and the children have fully embraced them. They have loved exploring different activities and working independently. Within our zones, we have begun some exciting new topics. In History, we have started learning about the Victorians. In Art, we are exploring the work of Georgia O’Keeffe and William Morris. In Science, we have been learning about plants and even planted our own cress seeds! We are looking forward to monitoring their growth and making sure they have everything they need to survive.
Well done, Year 2, for such a brilliant week of learning!
