A Busy Week in Year 6
This week, Year 6 have worked amazingly hard completing their Practice SATs. We are very proud of the progress all of the children have made and the resilient attitude they showed towards their tests. Their focus, determination and positive mindset were fantastic to see.
But don’t worry — the week was not all tests!
Science – The Human Heart
In Science, we created a class model of the human heart. The model included arteries, veins and capillaries (the blood vessels), as well as blood cells and the organs involved in the circulatory system. Building the model together helped us understand how blood travels around the body and the important role each part of the circulatory system plays.
World Book Day
Thank you for the fantastic effort everyone put into their World Book Day costumes — you all looked amazing! We began the day by sharing books with Year 3, enjoying the chance to read to them and listen to stories together.
Later, we explored the art of storytelling from the Caribbean. We listened to and discussed the stories The Special Pumpkin and Two Dinners, which are traditional tales passed down through oral storytelling. We thought about the themes, the humour and the lessons in the stories, and discussed how storytelling has been used to share culture and history for generations. It was a wonderful way to celebrate books, stories and imagination.
Dance – World War II
In dance this week, we began our new work based on World War II. We explored what life might have been like in wartime factories and created movements to represent different parts of a factory. Using our bodies, we showed mechanical and repetitive actions, thinking about how machines and workers moved during the war effort.
We also learned some gymnastic movements, which will help us make our dancing more fluid and controlled next week. It was exciting to start developing our ideas and think about how movement can help tell a story.
