Maths – Measures

In maths this week, we have been recapping measures, focusing on the key facts we need to remember about length, mass and capacity. We revisited important conversions and made sure we understood how to apply them accurately.

We then challenged ourselves by applying these skills to more complex problems, which required careful thinking and checking. It was a great way to build our confidence and deepen our understanding.

English – Independent Writing

In English, we worked on our independent writing skills using two engaging videos, Sometimes the Stars and Catch a Lot. These helped us to think about character, emotion and storytelling without relying on a text.

We also returned to Letters from the Lighthouse and were introduced to the lighthouse keeper for the first time, which has made us even more curious about how the story will develop. It has been exciting to combine creative writing with our class text.

History – A Global War

In history, we explored how World War II was truly a global war, involving soldiers from across the world as part of the British Empire. We learned about the different roles people played and how experiences varied depending on where they came from.

To help us understand this, we took part in role play, stepping into the shoes of different individuals, such as soldiers and civilians from different countries. This helped us think more deeply about their experiences, challenges and contributions during the war.

DT – Designing Our Lighthouses

In DT, we began designing our own lighthouses. We thought carefully about what makes a lighthouse effective, including its shape, structure and stability, as well as how it withstands strong winds and waves.

We referred back to our design checklist, considering things like height, materials, light source, and how the structure would stay strong. This careful planning will help us when we begin building our lighthouses, and we are excited to see our ideas come to life!
