Coten End Primary School
Week beginning 20.4.26
Year 3 certainly made the most of the lovely weather this week with 3CC and 3LA going on their trip to Cross Hands Quarry. Both classes had a wonderful time, collecting fossils, searching the spoil pile and admiring the lovely views over the Cotswold Countryside. As the trips were at the end of our Fossil Hunters theme, the children impressed the experts with their learning all about rocks and how fossils are made.
Back at school, we have celebrated Earth Day this week too. We all had a special visitor to talk to us about blackbird habitats and the need to keep a look out for the nests in our gardens. We then spent some time looking in the school grounds for blackbird nests. Unfortunately, we only found a pigeon's nest, but the children are now well equipped with the knowledge of how to keep searching.
We also spent some time researching and learning about different types of renewable energy and enjoyed seeing how a portable solar panel works by putting it in the sun and then plugging in a light, powered by solar energy. Some of the children then had a go at inventing their own machines that could harness renewable power.
