The Final Push and a Visit from Emma Carroll
Wow, the final push towards SATs has been incredible! We have been so impressed by the determination, focus and resilience shown across Year 6. Everyone has worked extremely hard and should be very proud of the effort they have put in.
Alongside our revision, we were incredibly lucky to be visited by the amazing author Emma Carroll. Emma Carroll has written many historical fiction books for children, including Letters from the Lighthouse, the book we have loved exploring throughout our World War II topic. Her stories are known for bringing history to life through exciting mysteries, memorable characters and powerful settings.
Year 5 and Year 6 had the opportunity to hear about Emma’s journey as a writer, where she finds inspiration and the process behind creating her stories. We asked lots of thoughtful questions, especially about Letters from the Lighthouse, including the characters, plot choices and how she researched life during World War II.
It was a fantastic experience to meet the author behind a book we have spent so much time discussing, predicting and writing about. Thank you to Emma Carroll for inspiring us and sharing her love of storytelling!
In science, we continued our learning about the human heart by creating detailed scientific drawings. We focused carefully on accuracy and ensuring our diagrams were clear and correctly labelled.
We identified the key parts of the heart, including the atria, ventricles, valves and the major blood vessels, and thought about the important role each part plays in the circulatory system. We showed patience and attention to detail to make sure our drawings were both informative and scientifically accurate.
