Coten End Primary School

Week beginning 18.05.26

Wow, after a much-needed weekend, Year 6 launched straight into a fantastic period of writing! We have been using all of the skills we have developed throughout the year to write independently and showcase what we can do.

We focused on including a range of Year 6 writing skills, such as expanded noun phrases, relative clauses, varied sentence structures, parenthesis, semi-colons, colons, ambitious vocabulary, dialogue and carefully chosen punctuation for effect.

After writing, we worked with our partners to carefully edit and improve our pieces. We checked our spelling and punctuation, as well as thinking about how we could improve our vocabulary choices and make our writing even more engaging.

We have been particularly impressed by the effort, creativity and imagination Year 6 have put into their free writes. It has been amazing to see everyone develop their own ideas and take pride in their writing.

PE – Rounders

In PE, we have begun playing rounders and have been focusing on developing our teamwork skills. We have practised the different skills needed in the game, including batting, bowling and fielding.

We have worked on our accuracy when bowling, our timing and technique when batting, and our communication when fielding as a team. It has been great to see everyone encouraging each other, showing good sportsmanship and working together during matches.

RE – What Happens After Death?

In RE, we have begun exploring the question: “What do different people believe happens after death?” Although this can be a tricky and thoughtful topic, we have approached it with maturity and respect.

We have started to learn about different worldviews and have reflected on what they have in common, as well as how beliefs can differ. It has been interesting to discuss different ideas and consider how people’s beliefs can influence the way they choose to live their lives.

Oliver with a Twist Auditions

This week, Year 6 showed fantastic courage and confidence during our Oliver with a Twist auditions. We were so impressed by everyone who stepped outside of their comfort zone and put themselves forward for a part.

The auditions showcased some brilliant acting, singing and expression, and it was wonderful to see pupils bringing the characters to life in their own unique ways. Everyone supported each other brilliantly and demonstrated our school values by celebrating each other’s performances.

Choosing roles is certainly not going to be easy with so much talent in Year 6! We cannot wait to begin rehearsals and see the production come together.
