Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 15.06.26
What a busy and exciting week it has been in Year 5.
Alongside working incredibly hard on our assessments, we also enjoyed a fantastic Culture Club Day, where each class across the school explored a different language and culture. From French and Arabic to Portuguese and Mandarin, there was a wonderful celebration of languages from around the world.
Class 5MC had the opportunity to learn all about Germany and the German language. They began the day by taking part in German greetings with an Austrian school via Zoom, which was a brilliant experience and allowed them to communicate with children from another country.
5MC were also lucky to welcome two special visitors, John and Julie, who taught the class lots of German words and phrases. They learnt how to count in German, practised colours, and developed their confidence in using a completely new language. John and Julie were extremely impressed with the children's resilience, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day. They commented on how willing Year 5 were to embrace a new language, ask thoughtful questions and fully immerse themselves in a different cultural experience.
No cultural celebration would be complete without some delicious food! 5MC enjoyed tasting traditional German treats, including apfelkuchen (apple cake) and marble cake. Many children were keen to try something new and shared their thoughts on the different flavours.
The creativity continued as 5MC also explored German folk art, producing some fantastic pieces inspired by traditional designs. It was wonderful to see everyone's imagination and artistic skills shine through.
Despite a week packed with assessments, the children demonstrated excellent determination and positivity. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved. Well done, Year 5!
