What a week it has been in Year 5, and what a heatwave we’ve had to navigate. Despite the soaring temperatures, the children have shown real maturity, resilience and teamwork, keeping spirits high. We are very proud of how well they coped.

In Computing this week, Year 5 explored the world of stop-motion. Working in small groups, they planned short story sequences, experimented with the animation app and learnt how tiny, careful movements bring characters to life. It was wonderful to see them collaborating so thoughtfully with problem‑solving, negotiating ideas and celebrating each other’s successes.

In History, the children explored the Heptarchy: the seven kingdoms that existed before unification. They compared the different regions and discussed how power shifted over time.

Inspired by Anglo‑Saxon symbolism, they then designed their own coat of arms, choosing colours, animals and emblems that represented their values. The creativity and thought behind their choices were fantastic.

Even in the heat, Year 5 remained focused as they finalised their World Cup country research. They gathered key facts, organised their information clearly and transformed their findings into eye‑catching posters. The results were vibrant, informative and full of personality, a brilliant celebration of their hard work.
