Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 11th November
This week began with a reflection from all classes on the theme of remembrance. All classes participated in a two minutes silence signalled by the cannon from Warwick Castle.
This theme of reflection continued throughout the week as the children thought about faith and belief as part of our inter-faith week. The children had a talk from a visitor from the Humanist society who was able to explain her beliefs and the children were then able to compare this with their own.
In other subjects, we have continued exploring the magical world of Harry Potter. All of year 5 have demonstrated their excellent descriptive skills by focusing on how to use expanded noun phrases and adverbials to describe both settings and characters.
In geography, the children have been using their map skills to examine some of the locations that were used in the filming of the Harry Potter film series. They have identified where they are in the UK and then also explored the Ordnance Survey maps of the areas as well as photographs to suggest how these landscapes compare with the books and how they made effective filming locations.
In DT, the children have begun to design their own Hogwarts banners. The children will be sewing these and spent some time this week considering which fabrics would be the most effective for producing their final products.
Another busy week done.
