Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 24.02.25

After a well-deserved February half-term break, Year 5 have jumped straight into our new topic, The Explorer, and what an exciting start we’ve had!

In English, we have started reading Katherine Rundell’s novel - The Explorer - a thrilling story of adventure, friendship and survival in the Amazon. Year 5 are already hooked, making thoughtful predictions and creating rich character profiles.

In Geography, we are exploring South America, diving into its diverse landscapes and incredible wildlife. To complement this, the children have been using soft pastels to design beautiful rainforest-inspired front covers. The attention to detail and vibrant colours they have used truly capture the beauty of the Amazon Rainforest.

Our Design and Technology lessons have taken us to the heart of Brazil! We are learning about Brazilian cooking, discovering the different ingredients and produce available in different regions. It has been fascinating to explore how geography influences the food people eat and the traditions they follow.

Science has been equally exciting as we study different life cycles. We were also lucky enough to visit Warwick School again, where the children had an amazing opportunity to expand their scientific knowledge with hands-on learning experiences.

Year 5 have had a fantastic start to the new spring term, and we can’t wait to continue our journey of exploration and discovery.
