Coten End Primary School
Attendance
At Coten End Primary School, we are committed to providing a warm, inclusive environment where every child can thrive. Good attendance is essential for children to succeed, build routines, and enjoy positive relationships.
From 19 August 2024, the DfE’s Working Together to Improve School Attendance guidance became statutory. This means all schools and local authorities must follow the national expectations for managing and improving attendance. We set high expectations for attendance, with a target of no more than 3 days of absence across the school year. This reflects the legal requirement for regular attendance and the strong link between attendance and long‑term achievement. More detail can be found in our Attendance Policy.
Good school attendance habits are best started early. Children learn from those around them and you as parents/carers set the standards and expectations for them. Showing your child, the importance of attending school every day not only helps your child to settle quickly when starting school but helps them to keep and maintain friendships, make good academic progress and develop positive life skills. Attending school regularly is a crucial factor in your child's academic success and personal development. We believe that a solid foundation of attendance will contribute significantly to your child’s overall growth and development.
To further support good attendance, we have implemented several measures within the school. These include regular monitoring of attendance rates, interventions for pupils who may be experiencing difficulties in attending regularly and additional targeted support for families.
At times, children can feel overwhelmed or anxious about coming to school. This can happen at any age, and it can be more common amongst children with additional or special educational needs (SEN). There can be many reasons why your child might experience school anxiety, but dealing with it can be stressful for you as a parent, as well as your child. You may also wish to contact Mrs. Kerry Pope (Deputy Headteacher and Inclusion Manager, Mrs. Nicky Pittaway (Parent Support Advisor) or Mrs. Katie Reeves (SENDCo) for further information or support.
