Times Tables

In Year 4, we place a strong focus on learning times tables because they are an important building block for so much of children's maths. Being confident with multiplication facts help children to solve calculations more quickly and accurately, and supports their learning with division, fractions, problem solving and more complex maths.

Towards the end of Year 4, children will take the Multiplication Tables Check, which is a short online assessment designed to check their recall of multiplication facts. The aim is not for children to feel worried about the test, but to help them become increasingly confident and fluent with their times tables.

Just a few minutes of regular practice at home can make a huge difference. Practising through games, songs, quick-fire questions or online activities can all help children build their confidence.
