In Year 4. we continue to develop children's spelling skills by learning spelling patterns and rules, alongside the National Curriculum statutory spelling words. 

We use Spelling Shed to support our spelling teaching and provide children with opportunities to practice their weekly spellings in an engaging way. We assess the children's spellings through their everyday writing, looking at how well they can apply the spelling patterns and words they have learnt. 

Regular practice at home can help children. See below for the statutory words they should spell by the end of year 4. Reading regularly also supports spelling by helping children to see words used in context.
